About Me

Your Specialist in SEN Support and Educational Testing

Sam Bunce

Hello and welcome! I’m Sam Bunce, the founder of The Experienced SENCo. With over two decades of experience in education, including extensive work in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), my passion lies in supporting students, parents, and schools in understanding and meeting the diverse learning needs of every individual.

My Educational Background

Master of Education (MEd) in SEND - Middlesex University:

My commitment to supporting students with SEND is grounded in a strong academic foundation. I completed my MEd in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Middlesex University, where I deepened my understanding of the complex challenges faced by students with learning differences. This advanced degree equipped me with the knowledge and tools to develop effective, research-based strategies for supporting neurodiverse students in their educational journeys.

NASENCO (National Award for SEN Coordination):

As a qualified SENCO, I hold the National Award for SEN Coordination, which is essential for any SENCO working in a school setting. This certification highlights my expertise in coordinating and implementing SEND provision, ensuring that students receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally.

CPT3A (Certificate of Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements):

With a CPT3A qualification, I am trained in administering and interpreting psychometric assessments, including those necessary for Exam Access Arrangements (EAA). This certification allows me to provide accurate and reliable testing services that help identify students' specific learning needs and ensure they receive appropriate accommodations during exams. I am registered with the BPS (British Psychological Society) as a certified educational test assessor

My Professional Experience

SENCO - 6 Years Full-Time in Secondary Schools:

I have served as a full-time SENCO for six years in both mainstream and private secondary schools. During this time, I worked closely with students, teachers, and families to develop and implement tailored educational plans that address each student's unique needs. My role involved coordinating SEND provision, supporting teachers with inclusive teaching strategies, and ensuring compliance with the latest educational standards and policies. I have written more than 50 EHCP applications in the last six years, with a greater than 90% success rate of getting students an EHCP.

Teacher of Chemistry/Head of Chemistry - 14 Years:

Before specialising in SEND, I spent 14 years as a full time Chemistry teacher and head of department, where I developed a deep understanding of the curriculum and the challenges students face in grasping complex scientific concepts. My experience in teaching has given me a strong foundation in pedagogy, which I now apply to my work in supporting neurodiverse learners.

Assistant Head Teacher/Associate Senior Leadership Team (SLT) - 2 Years:

In my role as Assistant Head Teacher and previously as a member of the Associate Senior Leadership Team, I was involved in strategic decision-making and school management. This experience gave me insight into the broader educational landscape, including the challenges schools face in supporting SEND students. It also honed my leadership skills, which I use to advocate for effective SEND provision.

NPQSL (National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership):

I hold the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership, a certification that demonstrates my ability to lead and manage in educational settings. This qualification has further equipped me to take on senior roles and drive positive change in schools, particularly in the area of SEND.
